Ian Clark learnt chess at the age of 14, when he moved to Oakmead School. He soon joined the school team and began playing in league matches.

 

Ian has played in local leagues since 1975. He has represented Dorset in two local leagues; the Dorset League and the Bournemouth and District League. In addition, he plays for Wessex in the 4NCL. In 2001, after one outstanding season, Ian achieved a career-best ECF grade of 203.

 

Ian has had many roles in local chess. For Dorset Chess he has been treasurer, organised the Dorset Individual Congress and is currently President. He is also junior officer and has run the Bournemouth Schools chess league and the Dorset Junior Championships for the last five years.

 

Ian is an accountant and has been self employed for 18 years. He has been involved in Chess in Schools and Communitiesí programme since September 2012.
