Julian Clissold manages junior chess in Manchester and has been the Manchester Chess Federation's Junior Organiser for over ten years. With other colleagues, he runs regular coaching sessions at Bolton Chess Club for junior members. Julian also runs Manchester Junior Chess Congresses four times a year.

Julian plays chess for Bolton Chess Club, and for Manchester Manticores in the 4NCL when time permits. He continues to study chess and is a firm believer in the advice that there is always something new to learn in chess and that chess teachers should also be chess learners.

Julian enjoys working with children and helping them develop their chess. He retired from teaching in 2013, after working in primary and secondary schools, and spending some time in the Higher Education sector working on teacher education programmes.
