Having learned to play chess at 7 years old by reading the instruction leaflet from his brotherís chess set.
Richard Harding played for his Primary and Secondary School chess teams, both in Hackney East London.
During Secondary School he joined Hackney chess club, and played for one of the lower teams.
After a break from chess due to work, Richard taught his daughter to play chess when she was 7, she went on to play for Essex under 9 and 11 teams.

From 1997 to the present Richard has run the chess club at Fairlop Primary School in the London borough of Redbridge. Currently Richard is a co-director of the Knights group of junior chess clubs, with clubs in East London and Essex. Also running a chess club at Brentwood Prep School, Richard also teaches for CSC at St Margaretís Barking.
