Alan Leary is a tutor at CSC’s two Hereford schools. A long time ago he learnt the basic rules of chess from an encyclopaedia, and is still receiving over the board lessons from just about anybody willing to have a game with him.

He is the secretary of both Hereford Chess Club and the County Association, and he is also the Herefordshire delegate to the ECF and the MCCU.

Around the time of his (non-contentious) redundancy, he was asked by CSC to find a couple of tutors to operate in Herefordshire, and volunteered himself. Although he wasn’t sure he would enjoy the classroom contact with primary school children, Alan is one of the charity’s longest serving tutors.
