From an early age Frank has been interested in solving all types of puzzles. This led to a career in IT, initially as a programmer and latterly designing software solutions for a large telecoms company. He started chess comparatively late at 16, but was fortunate enough to represent Wales at under 18 and under 26 level, playing in a few international tournaments.

Frank has taken early retirement and has helped to organise a chess club for his local school for a number of years. Last year he started as a CSC tutor and this year he is teaching chess at three schools in the Cardiff area. He is also keen to keep his body active as well as his mind, so he plays badminton and tennis regularly and cycles to as many destinations as the weather allows.
