Andrew Offord was taught chess by his father when he was seven. Since that time his involvement in the game has varied greatly, but his interest has never waned. At present he is Thurrock’s first team captain & plays regularly for Essex.

Andrew’s professional life involves the research, application and teaching of mathematical ideas. He am convinced that an early exposure to chess has equipped him with many skills that he uses in the course of his work.

Andrew joined the ‘Chess In Schools’ programme in Sept ’13 and is so glad that he did. He says that “it is a wonderful feeling to watch your students chess understanding develop and to know that in doing so they are acquiring skills that will positively benefit their whole lives.”
