Pimlico Library Club. CSC supports a club at Pimlico Library and is looking for volunteers to help run it.

CSC is looking for volunteers to run a chess club at York Explore - Central Library on Sunday afternoons.

CSC is looking for a volunteer to run a lunchtime chess club at a Kidderminster primary school.

For any of the above please contact Dan Staples - .

Are you retired or studying? Could you spare one or two hours a week? Chess in Schools and Communities are looking for volunteers for schools and the wider community.

We can offer you the opportunity to run a chess club in a library as well as helping tutors in schools in term time and/or running after-school or lunchtime chess clubs.

Experience of working with young people and knowledge of chess are an advantage, but the main qualifications are enthusiasm for the game and the ability to communicate this to children. You don't have to be a chess expert or have previous experience. In schools you will work alongside a CSC tutor. In a library you will have a librarian to provide help and advice.

We will provide you with free training and support. We will fund a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) formerly the CRB or Criminal Record Bureau - check. Our coaching courses will equip you to run a library or school club and help a tutor teach chess in a classroom. We hold regular coaching courses in and around the UK.

Providing a chess club at your local library would help provide a valuable service to your local community.

Many of the schools enrolled in our programme operate in challenging circumstances, but a chess club is an excellent way of raising children's aspirations and self-confidence.

If you want to give something back to your local community and/or are interested in gaining classroom experience, CSC will be very pleased to hear from you.

Chess in Schools and Communities is a growing enterprise the schools we are currently active in are listed on our Project pages. If there does not seem to be a CSC project near you, please get in touch. Libraries and schools contact us all the time and we may have opportunities in your area.

Volunteer opportunities are here or email Dan Staples  for further information.
