A nine-year-old chess prodigy challenged the home secretary to a game at parliament after he stopped the boy being deported.

Shreyas Royal, who has been described as the greatest British chess prospect in a generation, beat Sajid Javid easily after being invited to his office on Wednesday.

Two months earlier Jitendra Singh, Shreyas’s father, was preparing to take his family back to India because his work visa was due to expire. Shreyas was distraught but the family were told that there could be no exceptions.
