CSC Ambassador Rachel Reeves has often spoken about the important skills she developed by learning chess as a child. She describes how the ability to think ahead, to plan strategically, and to solve complex problems have proved critical throughout her political career.

Recently, Rachel met up with her primary school headteacher over a game of chess. The pair discussed the importance of ensuring all children gain access to the educational and social skills developed through extra-curricular activities such as chess. The CSC Schools' Programme aims to close the attainment gap by providing such access, particularly to children of disadvantaged backgrounds.
