Chess at Home

Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is delighted to offer schools and parents a range of resources suitable for Home Learning. The material is split into a series of lessons, adapted from the curriculum our tutors normally deliver in over 340 schools across the country each week. There are YouTube videos, worksheets, and Kahoot quizzes to accompany each lesson. The course assumes no prior knowledge of chess and is suitable for complete beginners.

We firmly believe that children learn chess best by playing the game. For that purpose, we have devised a series of mini-games that can be played with a minimum of knowledge. The mini games introduce each chess piece in turn. We recommend that parents or carers play their children at these mini games, developing a good understanding of how each piece moves, before proceeding to the next lesson.

To complement this material, CSC runs two online chess clubs, one for primary school children on ChessKid, and the other for secondary school children on the Lichess platform. Children who complete our Chess at Home course should be highly proficient players. We hope they have fun along the way!
