Duke of Edinburgh Award
In January 2026, CSC was delighted to be made an approved provider (APP) for the skills section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. You can find our listing on the DofE website by searching for chess here.
We are happy to offer 13-week courses to secondary schools whose students wish to learn chess as their skill for Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards. From September 2026, we will also be offering 26-week courses for students undertaking their Silver or Gold awards.
Schools taking up this offer will receive:
13 weeks of chess lessons, delivered either at lunchtime or after school by a CSC tutor
all the necessary chess equipment and learning resources
online accounts to support the students’ learning
access to CSC’s award-winning bespoke curriculum
free training for a member of staff if they wish to support the chess sessions
The lessons are suitable for players of all standards and will be tailored to individual ability. For complete beginners, we would use an abridged version of our standard 30-week curriculum. We suggest a school should have 10-20 students interested to ensure the course is financially viable.
At the end of the course, the CSC tutor will sign the students’ Assessor’s Cards to confirm they have successfully completed the requirements for the Skill Section of the award.
This offer is subject to tutor availability. CSC is active across the UK and will endeavour to find a tutor for any school that is interested. For more details and for pricing, please contact us using the form below.
CSC is working on an offering that will support students who want to be involved in chess as part of the Volunteering Section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. However, we are not currently in a position to offer individual volunteering positions.
