CSC pupils turn out in force in Portishead
There was an amazing turnout from pupils from CSC schools at the recent Portishead Junior Chess Tournament. Now in its 6th year, the event is open to players of all standards aged 5-18 and this year attracted 111 competitors, of whom 23 were students from our schools programme. All had a great time, especially when they discovered they were playing for some special CSC trophies on top of the normal prizes.
The event was organised by our Regional Organisers for the Bristol area, Jane Norton and Jack Tye, ably supported by several of our tutors: Chris Strong, George Miller, Ferdo Dizdarevic, Steve Doxey, and SJ Quigley. It was a true CSC-family affair, with Mrs Dizdarevic among the many helpers!
While the competition was tough, all the children had a wonderful time and the day was a huge success. Don’t just take that from us - here are some very kind words from Professor Bai Li of Bristol University, one of the many parents who attended: “Thank you to everyone, especially all the volunteers for creating this wonderful day for the children and their families. Your dedication to providing encouragement and motivation is world class! The level of care and attention that all staff members pay to individual children was second to none! I noticed how you interacted with every child with caring and welcoming smile when they arrrived, when they waited for their certificates… it’s the people who made the day so outstanding!”
Congratulations to Jane and her team!
