Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme

CSC is delighted to have recently been made an approved activity provider (AAP) for the Skills Section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. We are now offering to send our tutors into secondary schools to run 3-month chess programmes for students working towards their Bronze and Silver DofE awards. The courses will be suitable for players of all standards - complete beginners to students who already have a good grasp of chess. As well as teaching the students how to play the game, we will also be offering advice on how to continue their learning once our course is finished, by joining chess clubs, through online platforms, and by studying the history of of the game.

While many children learn chess at primary school, there is still a big drop-off at secondary schools. An incredible 30% of all 14 year-olds start the Bronze DofE Award each year. We hope our new offer to schools will lead to more teenagers maintaining their interest in the game. For more details, please see here.
