EPSCA Success for CSC Pupils

Junior chess in North Somerset is having a resurgence, not least down the to work of our amazing team of CSC tutors in the area. Following their recent success in the English Primary Schools Chess Association regional event, the Somerset girls team headed off to the national finals in Loughborough last weekend. Several of the players attend CSC schools in the region, receiving weekly tuition in either chess lessons or after-school clubs. For this event, the squad of eight was supported by CSC tutors George Miller and Chris Strong, and our Regional Organiser Jane Norton.

Despite facing tough opposition in the form of teams from Richmond and Ealing, the Somerset team did spectacularly well, winning the Minor section with a score of 17.5 points out of a possible 24. Moreover, it was a real team effort: every one of the Somerset players went home with a positive score, emphasising the strength in depth of their flourishing squad.

Our congratulations to the Somerset players and to CSC’s brilliant team for providing such excellent teaching and incredible support!
