Merseyside tournament at St George’s Hall, Liverpool

CSC’s annual Merseyside Primary Schools Chess Tournament was held in the grand setting of St George’s Hall, Liverpool, on Wednesday 9th July. Chess is Merseyside is experiencing a huge boom and the area is looking forward to hosting the 2025 British Chess Championships later this month. CSC has seen unprecedented demand for its Schools Programme recently, and has been hiring and training new tutors to teach in an ever-increasing number of schools next year.

On their arrival at St George’s Hall, the children received lessons from CSC tutors, honing their skills for the competition to follow. In the tournament itself, school teams of five players competed in matches in one of three sections: U9, U10, and U11. The games were all played in an excellent spirit and all tutors were very impressed with the level of chess on display.

At the end of the tournament, medals and trophies were presented to the leading schools while all children took home some CSC goodies. Our congratulations to everyone who took part in a most enjoyable day.
