Merseyside Tutor Meet Up

Our Merseyside programme has grown considerably over the past couple of years, thanks largely to the energy and professionalism of our Regional Organisers, Rob Steele and Magda Hamblett and their amazing team of tutors.

With another busy year in prospect, the team recently took time for a get-together ahead of the start of the new term. They reviewed the 2025/26 academic year, discussed highlights and challenges, exchanged teaching tips, and made plans for the year ahead. Working in schools isn’t always straightforward, and sharing experiences with colleagues can offer great support as well as being a source of new ideas.

The day wasn’t all work, though - our tutors reversed roles and became students for the afternoon as Roger Williamson and Andrew Savage ran some very informative and entertaining chess masterclasses, a reminder, if one was needed, that there is still a huge amount for us all to learn about the wonderful game of chess.

Afterwards, the team adjourned to a hostelry to reinforce their team spirit! We look forward to hearing about their exploits at the front of a classroom over the coming months.
