North Somerset Interschool Chess Championship

Thanks to everyone involved in the new CSC North Somerset Interschool Championship. On Friday 26th June, 80 children from 10 schools gathered at Somerset Hall, Portishead, to put everything they’ve been learning this year into practice.

Our well-deserved winners this time were Portishead Primary School with St Peter’s CofE Primary School in second place. Trophies, team and individual medals were given to all those who achieved a podium place. And no-one came home empty-handed with goodie bags prepared for all, including mascots, badges and magnetic sets

It was the middle of the heatwave but despite the heat the children battled through, played brilliantly and kept smiling throughout.

Well done to all the players and the teachers who helped everything run smoothly behind the scenes. We would also like to give a particular shoutout to Jane Norton and Jack Tye and their fanastic team of tutors for organising the tournament and helping chess to thrive in Somerset.
