Whitefield Primary School - a CSC Centre of Excellence
CSC is delighted to announce that Whitefield Primary School in Liverpool has become the charity’s first ever Centre of Excellence. The school will play an important role in developing the teaching skills of our new tutors, training them on classroom management techniques and lesson planning. The school will also offer valuable time in the classroom, where our trainees will be able to hone their skills supported by experienced tutors and school staff. In the 2025/26 academic year, CSC will be teaching in 40 schools across Merseyside and is aiming to expand further. This will only be possible if we have opportunities for training new chess tutors.
Since joining the CSC Schools’ Programme a couple of years ago, Whitefield’s Headteacher Jill Wright and Deputy Headteacher Marie Brown have become strong advocates for the benefits that learning chess brings to their pupils. We run weekly lessons and a chess club in the school, and the pupils have already enjoyed several trips to our tournaments at St George’s Hall, and to London for the London Chess Classic and ChessFest (photo above shows children attending ChessFest 2023).
We would like to thank Whitefield Primary School for it’s amazing support and we look forward to a fruitful partnership over the coming years.
