A Simul in the City

CSC CEO Malcolm Pein delivered a simultaneous display at the chess club of Schroders in the City of London last night. Sixteen players, including CSC tutor Ben Wicks, took Malcolm on in a contest that included several very close games. Malcolm called on all his experience, steering most of the games clear of tactical skirmishes and towards endgames that relied on positional expertise. Some games went to the wire and Malcolm was fortunate to win an opposite coloured bishop endgame by a snap checkmate, but the final score was 16-0 in favour of the International Master. Malcolm also gave a talk on the history of the charity and provided great insights into several games that club members shared.

The event was held to raise money for the charity and we are very grateful for a generous donation to support our work. A number of those present expressed a keenness to do some volunteering with CSC in the future. If you would like to organise a similar event for your workplace, we’d be very happy to hear from you.
