Ellie Reeves MP visits Ivydale Primary
The children at Ivydale Primary School in Southwark were delighted to receive a visit from their local MP recently. Ellie Reeves, now a cabinet minister, was a strong chess player in her youth and retains a keen interest in the game. She and CSC CEO Malcolm Pein joined our tutors, Peter Mant and Russell Terry for their weekly chess lesson at the school. Ivydale has been part of CSC’s Schools’ Programme for several years and its pupils have enjoyed several visits to our special events such as the London Chess Classic and ChessFest.
After the lesson, Ellie and Malcolm took on the pupils in a simultaneous display, giving all the children to test their skills against their visitors. The final score hasn’t been reported to us - perhaps for the best! - but it’s clear that everyone had a great time and really enjoyed Ellie’s visit.
