MegaFinal success!

CSC’s focus is on teaching whole classes of children to play chess as part of the school day, thereby developing cognitive thought, pattern recognition, strategic planning, along with a host of social skills. It is these benefits that drive the impact of our schools’ programme, with the competitive side of chess taking a backseat. Nonetheless, as keen chess players ourselves, we are always delighted to hear stories of our children’s participation in tournaments, especially when they’ve been inspired to take part by the excellent teaching of our tutors.

We were therefore very pleased to hear of Ava and Lev, two of our pupils in a school in Surrey, who recently took part in a MegaFinal of the Delancey UK Chess Challenge. The UKCC is an excellent competition, with some 30,000 children taking part each year. The competition is tough, and by the time you get to a MegaFinal, the chess is of a very high standard. Both Ava and Lev did exceptionally well, scored highly, and qualified for the next stage of the competition, the GigaFinal. This is the penultimate stage before the national finals, the TerraFinals. We wish both Ava and Lev the very best of luck in the rest of the competition.

Our congratulations too to our brilliant and hard-working chess tutor at Ava and Lev’s schools, Mr Khan!
