A Trio of Tournaments on Teesside

Our Teesside team don’t do things by halves - they do things in threes instead! Over the past couple of weeks they have held three separate tournaments across their region, incorporating 16 teams from 11 different schools.

First up was the Middlesbrough section, hosted by Park End Primary. Park End are this year celebrating a big milestone: they have now had chess incorporated into their curriculum for 10 years - a magnificent achievement. Despite strong opposition from 2024 Champions Hemlington Hall, Park End’s dedication to chess paid off with their Y5 team taking this year’s honours.

A day later and it was time for the Stockton and Hartlepool tournament, held at Hardwick Green Primary. This was the toughest competition of the three, with defending champions, Billingham South, just managing to pull away from the pack during the final flurry of games.

Last, but certainly not least, it was the turn of Redcar and Cleveland schools, who gathered at Grangetown Primary. Here, Errington took the title for the first time since 2014 with a perfect score of eight wins from eight games. Defending champions Wheatlands were in contention all the way through and are still clearly a force to be reckoned with.

Our huge thanks to all the pupils and teachers that took part, and especially to our three host schools, for making the events so enjoyable. Congratulations to CSC’s Sean Marsh and Catherine Lloyd for organising three excellent events in just three days!
