Alex Sobel MP Visits ChessFest

Over the past three days we’ve held three days of school events in Manchester Square Gardens in central London, visited by 42 schools from around the country. Many of the schools had long journeys to attend, often setting off on the very first train in order to be there ready for the start of the chess activities.

One of the schools with the longest journeys was Ireland Wood Primary School from Leeds. They were rewarded with a visit from Alex Sobel, MP for Leeds Central and Headingley. Alex took a break from a very busy Westminster schedule to come along to Manchester Square and met the pupils from his constituency, watching them play in a simultaneous display against some chess masters and wishing them luck for the afternoon’s tournament.

We know Ireland Wood really appreciated the support of their MP and had a fantastic time at the event. It’s lovely to see schools from all round the country at ChessFest. CSC was happy to provide bursaries to support their travel costs.
