Bristol Schools Chess League
Our Bristol team have been busy recently, arranging a new league for schools in the local area. The competition is the brainchild of CSC tutor and President of the Bristol Chess League, George Miller, but it was a team event in every sense, with our Bristol coordinators Jane Norton and Jack Tye helping out along with several of our local tutors.
The league is open to every school and is designed to be a first venture into competitive chess, giving children a chance to represent their schools as well as giving them confidence to play in individual tournaments. CSC schools were very well represented, making up half of the teams. For some of the pupils it was a great warm-up for a forthcoming trip to Nottingham for the EPSCA finals. We were particularly pleased to see so many girls involved in the league, with Mary Elton Primary School even fielding a girls-only team.
Our congratulations to the whole CSC Bristol team for introducing a new event into the schools chess calendar. And our huge thanks to all the teachers, parents, and of course children for supporting the event and making it such a great success.
