Boleyn Trust tournament
Chess tournaments are an excellent way of bringing all the schools in a multi-academy trust together. Chess is a game that can be shared by many children across a MAT and a competition gives them the chance to meet their peers from within the trust while also taking pride from representing their own school.
Now in its second year, the Boleyn Trust Chess Tournament features several schools from east London and is held at New City Primary School where Mr Dutch, Deputy Headteacher, is a huge advocate for the benefits of chess. This year, seven schools took part, their teams competing in a Swiss tournament with medals for the highest individual scores and a trophy for the winning team.
After a tense contest, this year’s winners were Rosetta Primary School, a great success for their pupils and for CSC tutor Steve Berkley who works tirelessly teaching chess at the school. Congratulations to the gold medal winners, An, Kevin, Mikaeel, and William. Nobody left empty-handed, however, as there were some chess goodies for everyone before they went back to school. Our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to a very enjoyable event.
