Merseyside Schools Chess Tournament
The annual CSC tournament at the magnificent St George’s Hall, Liverpool, is a mainstay of the CSC’s Merseyside programme and continues to go from strength to strength. This year we welcomed 34 local schools who fielded 410 pupils across 82 teams and four age categories.
The pupils were able to enjoy a full day of chess, with lessons from CSC tutors in the morning followed by the tournament itself. Capping off a year of brilliant chess learning in our CSC schools, the children demonstrated all the skills they have learnt throughout the year and played in a respectful and sporting manner.
We were also pleased to receive a visit from both the Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor William Shortall and the city’s Vice-Mayor for Growth and Economy, Councillor Nick Small to open the tournament and present the awards. We thank them for all their support.
After a good day of chess, the results were as follows:
U8 winners - St Bridget’s
U9 winners - St Bridget’s
U10 winners - Ladymount
U11 winners - St Bridget’s
The winners of team and individual podium places received medals, and all the children came away with goodies.
We look forward to seeing everyone next year.
