Old Spitalfields Market Club Welcomes GM Stuart Conquest
Our weekly chess club at Old Spitalfields Market, on the edge of the City of London, is now in its second year. Every Thursday, between 6pm and 8pm, players gather around the food stalls at the centre of the market for some social chess organised by our excellent tutor Awate Suleiman. It’s completely free to come along and have a game and there’s no need to book.
The club attracts players of all standards, from beginners to, well, grandmasters! Last week we were delighted to welcome Grandmaster Stuart Conquest who dropped in to play a few games of chess including some against Awate. He isn’t the first grandmaster to frequent our club - GM Daniel Fernandez has also been spotted - but he is our first British Champion to take part and it was great to see him there.
Stuart is a good friend of the charity and has worked with many of the children who visit our school events. If you fancy taking him on in a game, Stuart will be one of several grandmasters available to challenge at ChessFest in Trafalgar Square in a couple of weeks.
