Onjali Q Rauf visits CSC schools
Onjali Q Rauf is a highly acclaimed children’s author. Her books, including The Boy at the Back of the Class, are on the reading lists of many primary schools across the country. Her most recent book, The Game I’ll Never Forget, is not only about chess, it also describes a visit to ChessFest, our annual celebration of the game in Trafalgar Square. Onjali recently paid a visit to the London Chess Classic and even took part in one of our school tournaments.
Today Onjali visited two of our schools in Tower Hamlets, the London borough in which she grew up. In the morning she visited Thomas Buxton Primary School before making a short trip across Whitechapel to Stepney Park Primary School in the afternoon. Both schools are packed full of keen chess players. They have lessons every week from CSC tutors, run thriving chess clubs, and take part each month in our Stepney Park Chess League. Onjali spoke to the children about her love of chess and her amazing career as an author. She also read from her book and signed a huge number of copies for the children to take home.
Our huge thanks to Onjali for these visits. We know she’ll have inspired many of the children and kindled in them a great interest in reading, writing, and of course chess!
