Birmingham on the move
In the past year we’ve seen a huge surge in interest in chess in Birmingham and the surrounding area. The number of schools in which CSC teaches has grown from six one year ago to 17 today, a growth which shows no sign of slowing down. We’re fielding interest from new schools every week, and are actively recruiting and training new tutors to run chess lessons and clubs across the region. In March we are running a tournament for schools from Wolverhampton, kindly hosted by The Royal School and supported by Warinder Juss, MP for Wolverhampton West. We also hope to be putting on some events for schools in Coventry later this year.
If you’d like to take part in the Birmingham chess boom, there are various ways to get involved:
If you’re a school teacher interested in introducing chess to your school, please contact us here.
If you’re interested in working for us as a tutor in schools, please apply here.
If you’d like to volunteer for the charity and help us set up a chess club in your local library, you can do so here.
If you’re a student at the University of Birmingham, come along to the Careers Fair on 4th February to find out about paid work for the charity.
If you would like to learn more about how to teach chess to children, come along to our next Birmingham training course on Thursday 5th March.
The 2026 British Chess Championships are being proudly hosted by the University of Warwick in August this year. This promises to give a further boost to chess in the region. CSC will be there, running a course for prospective tutors on Saturday 8th August. We hope to see you too!
