Chess lessons in Ukraine

Recently, CSC’s CEO, Malcolm Pein, visited Odessa to speak at a conference. While he was in Ukraine, he spent some time visiting local chess clubs. We are delighted to announce that as a result of these visits, CSC is now supporting chess lessons for groups of children in the cities of Kobeliaky and Derhachi, providing the chess equipment and funding the tutors.

The chess lessons take place in the Goncharenko centres and are delivered by local tutors, Rustam Bandaliiev and Mykola Mykolaienko. Up to 40 children take part in each lesson, and the early feedback is that they are really enjoying their learning and are making excellent progress.

This work in Ukraine builds on support we have been able to offer several children whose families have fled the country and now reside in the UK. Most notable of these is Svyatoslav Bazakutsa who has already achieved the title of International Master and now has his eyes set on the Grandmaster title.
