Portishead Primary School introduces curriculum chess

Fun Master Mike from ChessKid presents awards in the playground of Portishead Primary School, 12th July 2025.

Following on from the huge success of ChessFest Portishead, we are delighted to announce that Portishead Primary School has become the first school in the area to introduce chess lessons to the curriculum. From September 2025, CSC tutors will visit the school every week, delivering two hours of lessons to children in Key Stage 2 as well as running an after-school club.

Delivering chess lessons during the school day is the core element of CSC’s Schools’ Programme. Our tutors follow a bespoke 30-week curriculum packed with mathematics content. The course is suitable for complete beginners and introduces the game of chess one piece at a time. By running lessons during the school day, we ensure our programme is fully inclusive and that all children gain social and education benefits through learning chess.

We look forward to working with Portishead Primary School and many of the other schools in the town over the coming years.
