Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is delighted to offer schools and parents a range of resources suitable for Home Learning. The material is split into a series of lessons, adapted from the curriculum our tutors normally deliver in over 340 schools across the country each week. There are YouTube videos, worksheets, and Kahoot quizzes to accompany each lesson. The course assumes no prior knowledge of chess and is suitable for complete beginners.

We firmly believe that children learn chess best by playing the game. For that purpose, we have devised a series of mini-games that can be played with a minimum of knowledge. The mini games introduce each chess piece in turn. We recommend that parents or carers play their children at these mini games, developing a good understanding of how each piece moves, before proceeding to the next lesson.

To complement this material, CSC has teamed up with ChessKid to offer primary school children free gold memberships of their online chess platform until 20th July 2020. ChessKid offers a huge range of instructional videos, chess puzzles, and the opportunity for children to test their knowledge by playing against other children from around the world. CSC will be running events, challenges, and tournaments for children with these free accounts. The offer is available to every child at a UK primary school. To learn more or claim free membership for your school click here. Individual parents may also enrol their children free here.

The initial content for our Chess at Home programme, covering the basic rules of chess, was launched in April 2020. We will be adding a new lesson every week over coming months. To receive updates by email please sign up to our newsletter below. Children who complete the course should be highly proficient players. We hope they have fun along the way!
