CSC is always happy to run tournaments for MATs or simply for groups of local schools with a keen interest in chess. For most children, our events are their first forays into competitive chess and the emphasis is always on ensuring everyone has a positive experience and is keen to come back for more.

In March, CSC organised a pair of tournaments for the Bellevue Place Education Trust. The Reading event was held at Whiteknights Primary School and featured children from three Berkshire schools: Evendons Primary School, Braywick Court School, and Whiteknights Primary School itself. After a closely-fought event featuring some excellent chess played in a very sporting atmosphere, Braywick Court emerged as the winners, just pipping last year's winners Evendons in the final round.

The London tournament, held simultaneously at Kilburn Grange School, saw teams from Watling Park School, Deer Park School, and Whitehall Park School taking on their hosts in another extremely competitive event. Whitehall Park finished at the top of the leaderboard here, though only after a recount of the point, such was the narrowness of their victory.

In total, 53 children took part from across the seven schools. Medals were awarded for the highest individual scores while the winning teams each took home a trophy.
