London Chess Classic

The London Chess Classic is the charity's flagship event. An annual celebration of chess held in the heart of London that brings together thousands of school pupils from across the country for chess fun as well as Grandmasters and keen chess players.

A young player making the first move for GM Levon Aronian

There have been 12 London Chess Classics since 2009 and we have been honoured to have world champions Garry Kasparov, Vishy Anand, Veselin Topalov, Vladimir Kramnik and Magnus Carlsen involved. You can find the London Chess Classic website here.

The London Chess Classic consists of three sorts of events.

  1. Schools’ events.
  2. A chess festival
  3. Grandmaster tournament
  4. Chess Teacher training courses
  5. An academic conference

The Schools Events

                                                                                                          Children receiving CSC goodie bags.

London Chess Classic Albums

At every London Chess Classic, Chess in Schools and Communities invites hundreds of schoolchildren per day to Kensington Olympia for chess filled extravaganza. There they enjoy a huge tournament, simultaneous chess matches, and the Chris and Lawrence Show of Chess (From real chess whizzes Chris Ward GM and Lawrence Trent IM)
