CSC was delighted to once again run a schools' day alongside the Grandmaster tournament of the London Chess Classic. Over 150 children from 16 London schools took part. Each received a lesson from a CSC tutor and some expert coaching. Later, the children took part in a tournament against their peers, with medals awarded for the highest individual scores. In the team tournament, Malorees Junior and Infant School were victorious and took home a fine trophy for their cabinet.

A highlight of the day was a visit from the ten Grandmasters taking part in the elite tournament. All the children took part in a simultaneous game against one of our chess stars who were all very generous with their time and their comments on the children's play. A handful of the children even earned draws against their illustrious opponents. It was such a great event that a couple of the Grandmasters had to be dragged away, lest they miss the start of their games in the main event!
