Tutors We Need You! We Need You! CSC welcomes applications for the following roles: School Chess Tutors. We are recruiting tutors across the country to run lessons and clubs in our schools. We have particular need in the following areas: Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Portsmouth, and Oxford. Regional Organisers. We are looking to add to our team of regional organisers who coordinate the charity's activities across the country. Chess Tutors Our innovative approach is to teach chess as a classroom subject in curriculum time. We aim to teach a whole year group at a school; sometimes more than one. As a tutor you will teach each class in a year group for an hour a week as well as running a club before or after the lessons. During the lessons you will be supported by the class teacher or teaching assistant. We will provide a 30-week curriculum with details lesson plans, worksheets, and handouts. We run a comprehensive induction programme for new tutors, including a training course and a period spent shadowing an experienced CSC tutor. Our tutors are currently active in over 200 schools in 80 boroughs and regions across England and Wales. While it is important to have a basic knowledge of chess, we have found that having classroom experience or the ability to work with children in a classroom setting is of great value. Enthusiasm and a passion for learning are essential. If you are interested, please complete our tutor vacancies form. Please provide the names and contact details of two referees and their relationship to you. Regional Organisers The role of the Regional Organiser is to coordinate the charity’s activities in a designated area: liaising with schools, managing and supporting CSC tutors in the delivery of curriculum lessons and chess clubs, running end-of-year tournaments, arranging chess events in the wider community, and promoting the work of the charity. A Regional Organiser’s area of responsibility will typically be a county; in London, it would be a borough or group of boroughs. We currently (August 2023) have vacancies for two new Regional Organisers in the Birmingham area. You can find a job description of this role here. To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to Chris Fegan, Chief Operating Office of CSC ([email protected]).
