Bristol's Best and Budding Chess players enjoy an end of year chess bash With the kind support of our hosts Bristol City Hall, we were again able to benefit from the use of the excellent surroundings of The Conference Hall. For several years now Bristol’s Mayor Marvin Rees has been able to take time out of his extremely busy schedule to visit and talk with some very excited players. This year two School ‘Board 1’s in particular were also able to play a few moves with him. For all of those playing this remains a highlight of the day. 16 impeccably behaved School teams (carrying imaginative names inclusive of Hot Dogs, Magpie Mashers, Flossing Unicorns and Savage Lava Guinea Pigs) attended this event held on the 25th June playing some fine competitive chess. A strong performance from Shield Road Primary (1st place – 5 wins) saw them gradually draw away from the ‘chasing pack’ to become Champions again. Second and Third places went to Wrington (4 wins) and Compass Point (3 wins and a draw) respectively. Special thanks to CSC Bristol Coordinator Paul Girdlestone who organised the event.
