This year's Stepney Primary Schools Chess League is taking place over seven rounds, each held on a Friday afternoon at Stepney Park Primary School. We have 10 schools taking part:

Ben Jonson Primary School
Cayley Primary School
English Martyrs RC Primary School
John Scurr Primary School
Marion Richardson Primary School
Stepney Park Primary School
St Anne's and Guardian Angels Primary School
St Peter's London Docks Primary School
The Aldgate School
Thomas Buxton Primary School

Each round the schools send in a team of six players who compete in a mini-tournaments with medals for the highest individual scores. We then add up all their scores to get a team total and the highest of these will take home the overall schools' trophy at the end of the season in July.

So far this season, we've seen four rounds of the league and some excellent chess being played. Most importantly, it's all being played in a competitive yet sporting manner, something CSC is always keen to impress upon our pupils.

Thomas Buxton are our early leaders, though new-comers English Martyrs are close behind and reigning champions John Scurr aren't out of contention in third place. Battle resumes in the summer term when we always see the toughest games, as children put into practice all they've learned back in the classroom over the past year.

If you're from a local school and would like to be involved, we'd love to hear from you. Our definition of Stepney is fairly elastic and we're keen for as many children to be involved as possible. For more details, please contact CSC's coordinator for LBTH, Matt Piper.

The Stepney Primary Schools Chess League is supported by the Stepney Partnership.
