The 2nd FIDE World Online Prison Chess Championship for Prisoners was held in October with 85 teams from 46 countries.  England fielded two teams in the Men's event, HMP Hewell captained by ECF Manager of Chess in Prisons, Carl Portman, and HMP Wandsworth captained  by Chess in Schools Prison Coordinator, Peter Sullivan.

HMP Wandsworth reached the second group stage after defeating the USA and Argentina. They didn’t quite make it to the final, but finished a highly respectable 10th out of 47 teams.

In the Young Offenders section HMP Isis and one player from HMP Wandsworth represented England and played incredibly well to reach the final, losing to Serbia but taking the silver medals!

HMP Bronzefield represented England in the Woman’s Championship. They too defied expectations, defeating USA and Ecuador to take the bronze medals.
