CSC commenced teaching at Primary Schools in Wrexham in November 2023. Two of the schools, All Saints School in Gresford and Park Community School in Llay competed in a match on March 15th over 31 boards to conclude their instruction for this school year.

CSC tutor Bob Clark, was joined by retired teacher John Gorman to organise the day, and both were very impressed, not only by the chess playing of the children, but also by the exceptional levels of sportsmanship displayed by all the children on the day. Our special thanks to All Saints school for hosting the day.

The day began with a double round 16 board match for the Y5 children. For All Saints, Lyrah, Oliver, Leo, Charlie, Joshua, Luke and Emily were successful in both their games, while for Park Community School, Zac won both his games, while Dan and Phoebe scored a win and a draw.

In the afternoon it was the Y6 children’s turn. For All Saints, James, Jacob, Alfie L, Ben and Stefan won both their games, while for Park Community School, Ethan and Felipe won both their games and Lily scored a win and a draw.

This left the final results as follows:

Y5          All Saints             21                        Park Community             11
Y6          All Saints            19                         Park Community             11

By way of consolation Park Community School were slightly better at solving the chess problems set by the tutor during a break between the games reported above.

The next event for the children to look forward to will be the CSC Wrexham Primary Schools Championships to be held at All Saints School on June 13th. If you would like further details of this please contact Bob Clark.
